It Takes Courage to Change

Seeking help is the first step

There are many reasons people begin therapy.  You may feel out of control or overwhelmed by your emotions or your day-to-day life.  You may be unhappy with your work, relationships or home life.  You may be feeling stuck, hopeless or trapped in patterns of behavior that no longer feel good. It takes courage to try and change.  Asking for help is a characteristic of successful, happy people, and is the first step to building the life that you want.

Individual Therapy

Psychotherapy is not easily described in general statements. It varies depending on the personalities of the psychotherapist and patient, and the particular problems you bring forward. There are many different methods I may use to deal with the problems that you hope to address. Psychotherapy is not like a medical doctor visit. Instead, it calls for a very active effort on your part. .

Couples Therapy

If you are a couple coming into therapy you may be having the same fight again and again, stuck in destructive patterns or just not feeling like you are on the same team.   While conflicts around money or the division of household chores are often the grounds in which the battles are fought, the underlying issues of communication, deep hurt, and feeling unfulfilled often go unaddressed.   We can work together to improve communication and help you both feel satisfied with your relationship.

Adult Family Therapy

Family therapy as adults is a good way to improve parent child or sibling relationships.  It may be brought on by a loss and the grief that follows or maybe you would like to improve communication.   It's not too late to try and repair a relationship.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST VISIT

Perhaps you're down or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead.  Whatever your needs may be, the first visit can often feel scary or intimidating.   I will help you walk through what brought you into therapy.

Our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs. By the end of the evaluation, I will be able to offer you some first impressions of what our work will include if you decide to continue with therapy. You should evaluate this information along with your own opinions of whether you feel comfortable working with me. Therapy involves a large commitment of time, money, and energy, so you should be very careful about the therapist you select. If you have questions about my procedures, we should discuss them whenever they arise. If your doubts persist, I will be happy to help you set up a meeting with another mental health professional for a second opinion.

I also offer a 20 minute phone consultation to ensure that this is a good fit.
